With the Race to the Top (RttT) government grant money about to start flowing in educators and grant recipients alike are revealing what they’re planning to spend their money on.

With the Race to the Top (RttT) government grant money about to start flowing in educators and grant recipients alike are revealing what they’re planning to spend their free money on. State education grants are being rolled out by the millions in accordance with the Obama Administrations education reform plan.

North Carolina is using a portion of their grant money for education to buy iPads for students and teachers in the Durham Public School system . The district is set to receive over $4 million in federal funding over four years. Other proposed changes include adding an extra hour to the school day and implementing a summer camp program in the disciplines of math and science.

The state of Georgia received nearly $400 million in education grant money. Of the 180 school districts in the state only two dozen applied for the federal funding grant. Educators will find out in mid-December whether their plans for spending their share of the money will be approved. Their goals, timelines and budgets were due to the U.S. Department of Education last week.

A little over $1 million of Georgia’s money has already been committed to a program that will allow 10th graders to take the PSAT for free.

Disbursement of any amount over $50,000 has to be signed-off on by the state Board of Education and must target one of the programs main objectives.

The Race to the Top main objectives include:
•	Standards and assessments. Creating and implementing a system of academic standards that will be consistent from state to state to prepare students both for college and for the workforce. That includes better assessments for measuring essential knowledge and critical thinking.
•	Teacher and Leader quality. Attracting and sustaining strong leaders in classrooms by providing more support to teachers and principals; revising teacher prep time; reforming evaluation procedures, compensation, and retention policies for teachers; and placing the better teachers in schools where their talent is most needed.
•	Data collection and tracking. Implementing a common data system and using said data to improve instruction.
•	Turnaround low-achieving schools. Make low-achieving schools a top priority by using innovative and effective approaches to improving education.
•	Education Reform. Encouraging partnerships between educators, business leaders and other interested parties to increase student achievement, promote innovation, and boost reform.

Providing higher quality education to young American’s is the main goal of the RttT. When President Obama presented the reform in 2009 the idea was designed to stimulate learning in the classroom. The reform, backed my millions of dollars in government grant money, is aimed at increasing graduation rates by allowing students to reach their full potential. More federal funding and more money directed toward educations grants means a greater opportunity for success for many young Americans .

Pell grants are college grants sponsored by the government, targeted toward low-income students.

A Pell Grant is a need-based college grant sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. Grant amounts vary depending on financial need, tuition costs, and student enrollment status. Unlike loans, grants don’t need to be repaid, which is why these grants are targeted toward low-income students.

Federal Pell Grants are awarded through over 5,000 participating postsecondary institutions to students with financial need. To qualify a student must prove that they have a low Expected Family Contribution (EFC). This is the estimated financial support parents and/or students are able to contribute to post-secondary education costs. The majority of Pell Grant recipients have a very low EFC.

Besides having to meet a financial need requirement students also must not have already received a bachelor’s degree from a post-secondary institution.

When applying for a Pell Grant:

1) Ensure you are eligible. Make sure you meet all the requirements to qualify.

2) Apply sooner rather than later – money is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

3) Fill out a Free Application for Student Aid. These can be found and filled out online for electronic submission.

4) If you are eligible, carefully follow instructions for claiming your Federal Pell Grant.

While the maximum Pell Grant for the 2010-2011 academic year is at its highest, $5,550, the program itself may be facing some funding issues in the near future. When the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act was passed by President Obama back in March things were looking up for the Pell Grant program. The money saved from ludicrous funding for subsidies are being allocated to expand the Pell Grant program. The problem now is that the program is looking at a significant shortfall for the 2011 fiscal year. If the program doesn’t get this shortfall covered, the maximum grant amounts are going to deplete heavily at a time when they are in high demand. The economy is experiencing a slow recovery and as a result students are more financially unstable. Their need for financial assistance will be even greater in the following academic year.

America needs to remain competitive when it comes to developing a workforce with a higher education background. If a resolution is not found millions of students are going to have their Pell Grants deflated and America’s workforce is going to suffer. This comes at a troublesome time when everyone, especially students, is still suffering the ongoing effects of the recession.

Growing up as a child all I ever thought of becoming was a doctor. I didn’t know how long it would take, or what I had to study, but all that I did know was that I wanted to become a doctor.

Living in an orphanage was not easy. To be able to grow up and achieve your dreams seemed like an impossible thing. I was abandoned as a new born and was given to the orphanage by some passer-by. I wonder where they found me.

There were lucky ones who got adopted and moved into their new homes. These were the few who grew up and got to achieve their dreams. I was one among these few! I was adopted by a nice man and women. They were not very well to do, but they made sure that all my needs were fulfilled. They kept me happy. I had a Family.

When I finished school, they asked me what I would like to do. It was then I told them I wanted to become a doctor. They were a little disappointed but said that they would do their best to see what they could do.

My dad approached me in the last few weeks of school and told me that he had found the perfect way for me to be able to achieve my dreams. It was through federal education grants!!

Federal education grants are free government grants given by the government for people who do not have the financial help to continue further studies. The government was willing to pay for my education. And they are willing to pay for your education too!! The best part about these grants is the fact that you do not have to worry about having to pay them back.

Federal education grants have been given out for almost 50 years. These grants are available to anyone who is a citizen of the United States of America. You also need to be 18 years or older to apply for any grant. There are different kinds of grants that are available. Each grant has different sets of requirements that need to be fulfilled to know if you are eligible to apply for a specific grant or not. Thus it is important for you to be able to get all the information you can before you apply for federal education grants.

You can be whatever you want to be. And you have your government to support you! It is now within your power to make your dreams come true!

Are you in School? Wondering what course you’re going to do once you complete school? Planning higher education always seems a big task doesn’t it? Now that can be “as easy as a walk in the park “. Once your financial needs are covered there are not many problems that you will face. So, whatever it is that you want to do you have your government willing to help you if you need any kind of financial help.

Higher education grants have been given out now for a very long time. It’s been almost 50 years since they have started this kind of financial aid programs. The only reason that a lot of people do not know about them is because the government does not advertise it.

There are various kinds of grants that are given out each year. Around 2 million US dollars have been set aside only for this purpose. These grants are available to all US citizens for various purposes. If you want financial help to jump start your business, small business grants are available to you. If you need to rebuild your home or if you want to buy your first home, housing grants are available to you. If you need help to clear all your credit card debts, debt relief grants are available to you. If you need help in going to school or college, you have higher education grants or education grants that are available to you. You name it and they’ve got it!

The Government wants to be able to help their citizens in times of need, so that in turn soon they will be able to help them back. So if you are looking to go about getting one of the higher education grants, all you have to do is apply. It would be advisable to first fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is a form that will help you apply as well as find out more details that will help you to go about getting these higher education grants.

Make sure that you take time to find out all the details on what the procedures will be. Fill out all the parts of the form. Make sure that you prepare yourself for interviews that may happen. If you have any doubts in filling the form, ask and get help they will be more than willing to help you out.

Once you have done you part just wait for them to do theirs. It won’t be long before you get your higher education grant!

Educational grants are the federal governments’ benevolence on its citizens to give each and every one an equal opportunity to achieve educational goals. To the minority population in the country, this is an olive branch. Minority education grants provide that single window of opportunity, which is otherwise closed tight for many in the community. The grants are the governments’ way of integrating the minority community into the mainstream society by granting them incentives so that they have leverage and access to the same quality of education as the mainstream population.

Why do the minority require a grant?

Minority education grants should not be considered as a negative attribute to the community. The principle behind the government offering such grants is to help the students who are restrained by the inherent socio-economic problems of its closed communities to step out and access better education and in turn help the system from within the community to bring out positive, healthy changes amongst their people.

How do Minority education grants help?

Awardees of the Minority education grants have contributed significantly back to the community from which they’ve come from. Of the several types of minority educational grants like the Hispanic grants or the black women grants etc each of these financial instruments have empowered that small segment of the society. An educated person from such a minority community or a student studying at a higher university serves as the source of inspiration to his or her peers. They are able to guide others who are caught in the same economically pathetic conditions such as themselves, to the right way of applying for the special minority educational grants.

They are able to assist and guide them to approach the right financial student advisors at the schools who would in turn counsel the student as well as the parents about the type of financial aid available to them. The minority education grants act as the motivating and incentive factor to help the students to achieve better goals in life in addition to educational goals without being burdened financially to finish the course.

In the absence of such minority education grants, whether offered through the government or from minority community trusteeship and councils, these communities would not have an exposure or access to the education and qualifications, which will free them from the vicious circle of suppressive closed communities inhibiting their growth as normal citizens of the US.

Do you have a passion for music? Have you ever thought of pursuing a career in music? If you have and do not have the financial help to do so, well today is your lucky day! Did you know that there is something called as “Music Education grants?” Well, this is a Grant that is given by the government to people like you who have a passion to learn Music but no finance to support it. There are Music Education Grants that are available to everyone, starting from students who are above 18 to teachers who want to specialise in any particular instrument.

Music Education Grants are available to help you in times of financial need. The biggest problem for students who want to study music is money! Music is an expensive affair. It is not very easy, as there are so many things that you need to have before you begin your courses like books, getting a proper instrument to learn on, and tuition and a whole bunch of other expenses. It is no wonder that so many people decide to quit their dreams even before they actually begin.

It is indeed fortunate that the government has taken the time and effort to make our dream come true. There are other organizations too that provide you with financial help and scholarships if you are a qualified individual. But the only reason that a government Grant is better than any other loan is because with a Music Education Grant you do not have to repay the money. Yes. In other words it is free indeed.

Federal Music Foundation is one that makes the gift of music available to everyone across the country. They provide funds and other resources for music programs. They give out grants as awards to music academies, Music Schools, Local and national Music programs across the whole of America. Since 2008 January they have given out as many as 38 grants to music academies and local music programs. They have also directly given out 17,000 grants to individuals.

Here are a few tips on how to plan on getting your Music Education Grant.

If you need financial assistance, first you have to be able to make a budget for yourself. Find out how much it will cost. Research where you want to study and how much the tuition per year is it going to be, and how much the books will cost etc. Once you know what it is you need you will have a clearer idea on how much to ask for.

Did you know that there are a lot of colleges that give out scholarships and grants too? Look for educational scholarships and grants at the colleges that you are applying at, or at the colleges where you have been already accepted. One of the first things that you will have to do to be able to apply for a grant or scholarship is to fill a FAFSA (Federal Assistance for student aid) form.

Colleges provide grants and scholarships based on the financial need and GPA and the talent and passion that you have, they also look at your previous records and recommendations.

So make sure you are fully ready before you apply for the Music Education Grants.

It is common to call studies beyond the twelfth grade as post secondary education. A student will enroll in a college to pursue his or her post secondary education. The college courses are called the undergraduate course and last for a period of four years. Each year of study will involve studying various subjects and by the end of the four years a student will have majored in a subject of study. They are called as bachelor’s degrees in the subject in which they major.

For example a Bachelor of Science will major in any of the science stream of subjects while a Bachelor of Arts would major in any of the humanities streams. It is very crucial that a student who is keen on pursuing his or her post secondary education should begin to gain information about how to apply to the various colleges for the subjects of his or her choice. Once, the student is accepted at a college, he or she could seek the governments help to fund his or her education through post secondary grants.

Following would be the procedure to ensure that the government would accept your application for the government post secondary grants. The federal government offers thousands of dollars as grants annually for the deserving candidates who wish to pursue higher education. The main deterrent to a student who would want to gain a post secondary education is the prohibitive costs of education in the country. To offset that financial burden, the federal government has placed several forms and types of financial instruments in place to help such students who cannot bear the burden of the education system.

Even though the information here is related to the government grants there are several non-government organizations and institutions, trusteeship awards, and minority board awards, which offer both need based as well as merit –based financial assistance. But these would be minor contributions in the sea of millions of grants the federal government offers to all its eligible US citizens such as the post secondary grants.

The first step for post secondary grants is to apply for the grants online. The Grants.gov is the nodal website where all the necessary information and procedures are discussed. A detailed requirement list, eligibility list and the list of grant opportunities along with the dates by which the grants will come to an end can be accessed. The Financial Aid Advisor at the college where the admission has been accepted is the ideal person to guide and counsel the secondary student about the several grants one could apply for.

There are several special education grants that help improve disabilities education. There are more than 39 offices under Federal and State Governments who provide various grants under special education grants. These grants are provided to give free education to children with disabilities and to provide early intervention services to detect disabilities.

The state provides financial assistance to all programs designed to maximise the disabled individual’s ability. It also provides assistance to their family members and guardians to obtain assistive technology to help the disabled. Several rehabilitative measures undertaken to help individuals with disabilities are provided funds under the special education grants. These grants help individuals with significant disabilities to function more independently in family and community settings. It also helps in maximising the leadership quality and empowers the individuals with disabilities to be more productive.

People with mental and physical disabilities are greatly benefited by the special education grants. These grants can be availed of by state educational agency, local educational agencies, institutions of higher education, any other public agencies, private non profit organisations, local educations directly serving the children etc. With the help of these grants, innovative systems are developed or policies initiated to improve educational environment for students with disabilities. Large scale assessment of the policies implemented and the student outcomes are done for proficiency and growth of students with disabilities.

Many individuals and schools have benefited from these innovative programs. Some of the programs under which funds are allotted are Cognition and Student Learning in Special Education, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Early intervention and early learning in Special Education, Reading, Writing and Language development, Mathematics and Science Education, Social and Behavioural Outcomes to support learning, Special education Policy, Finance and Systems.

Children with disabilities always need someone to support them. This is a burden not only to the child but also to the parents or guardians. These innovative grants help these children attain independency by achieving education which would help them to be absorbed into the American main stream society. Many schools come forward to help children with disabilities as they are provided grants on behalf of these children. They implement innovative techniques with the help of tools and strategies like assessment tools, curricula services, interventions, programs and seminars that have been very effective in improving the standard of children with disabilities.

Cognitive, communicative, linguistic, social, emotional, functional and physical outcomes of students with disabilities are addressed through these programs. These children who are supported under the special education grants are found to have better behavioural, social , functional or emotional competencies that help them to lead a life with minimal or no support at all.

Technology education grants incorporate information technology into the learning experience to improve technological advancements in the field. Educational technology warrants immediate responsiveness of computer based programs and a self paced private learning environment, which provide greater access to education in the case of students with disabilities and those living in the remote areas. The quality of education in these areas can be highly improved with the use of technology.

Technology education grants are provided not only for those in remote areas but this program enables state educational agencies to plan, develop and execute state-wide data systems and also accurately manage and analyse student data one at a time. This helps to generate and use timely and accurate deadlines to meet reporting requirements, support decision making at classroom, school, district and state levels and assist research process to abolish achievement gaps as well as improve learning of all students.

Technology has lots of advantages in schooling. Students, when they learn the use of technology in a young age, can make much more use of it as they grow. Curriculum development and Teacher training, along with the use of technology, can help establish instructional practices, which can be executed very well.

The technology education grants are available under various programs like grant program for State-wide, Longitudinal Data systems, Enhancing Education through Technology program, Technology and Media services program, Assistive Technology and Ready to Teach Program and several other programs.

Today along with all the other costs of living rising up, costs for a better education are also surging upwards. It is becoming difficult day by day for an American student to bear the costs of a higher education. The U.S government along with other private organizations has issued a lot of grant programs to resolve this financial crisis concerning the education of the American students. An estimated $100 billion has been issued to serve the cause of education.

These grants are offered at school level as well as university level. These grants are offered not only for students but also to K-12 schools. These grants help schools and colleges meet the ends, provide a better infrastructure of education, and avail of up-to-date technical support for science and technical education. The university grants help the universities to provide a better scholarship program for their students.

Some of the university grants, which are available for young undergraduate, post graduate and research students are listed bellow:

University research grants: These university grants make original research and innovations possible through an expensive academic setup. These grants award researchers scholarships to find solutions to the social, cultural, scientific, and technical solutions. Recipients are mostly faculty, graduate, or undergraduate students. The outcome of these researches mostly come in the form of published papers or books; arts and performances; science and technical breakthroughs; sophisticated data analysis and theories. A lot of universities such as Stanford University offer the research grants.

The university grants are available for undergraduate students on their individual research projects. There are three major categories for academic work: $1500 for smaller student projects or larger project follow-ups; angel grants of up to $3000 to finish cultural creative work –such as art, concerts, documentary film projects, and theatrical production; and some major grants up to $5000 to senior students for their substantial and in-depth projects. Stanford also offers scholarship to cover attendance and conference fees. All grants require a research proposal and a letter of support from the concerned faculty.

DOD Awards or the Department of Defense awards: The Department of Defense has announced to award $19 Million to 19 state universities to perform research in the field of science and technology concerning national defense. This is commonly called the Defense Experimental program and has recruited over 58 researchers nationwide with an average award of $321,000 each.

Grants for international students: The international students coming from all over the world to pursue higher studies in the U.S are also awarded grants to cover the fees for their studies and other expenses. However these grants are very limited and awarded only to the most deserving candidates. The grad students are provided support mostly by the university itself in the form of teaching and research assistantship. Fellowships are also provided to international students as a stipend for living and educational expenses to have a full time graduation study. An international student should ask both the concerning department and the university financial aid support to avail of these grants.

There are many private organizations such as Eli &Edythe Broad Foundation, Bill &Melinda Gates foundation; Annie E Cassey Foundation etc that offer education grants. To avail of these grants the students must seek the advice of their high school guidance counselor or the concerned department of the college they are applying. These grants are free and require no repayments.
